(Nail) Polish Porn: Nails Inc. x Victoria Beckham “Bamboo White” vs. Ciate x Oliva Palermo “My Off Duty Nude”

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve done a nail polish porn feature and I must complete this one. Why? Because I need to make a retraction. GASP.

Yep. My feelings on products normally are spot-on but this time I’ve done a 180 on one of these celebrity partnership nail polishes…

Nails Inc Victoria Beckham collaboration

Nails Inc. and Victoria Beckham partnered up earlier this year for a duo set – one white and one coral. The coral/red shade didn’t interest me very much but I heard many, many positive reviews for the “Bamboo White” shade so you best believe I picked up this $25 beauty. I was immediately obsessed (especially with the amazing box). The two-coater is amazingly opaque with a hint of light pink in this neutral white shade. It almost has a matte finish which adds to its allure. AHHMAZING. I wore this color non-stop for a month, re-painting my nails every few days.

Then, I had a hectic few weeks at work and was unable to re-paint my nails. There was minimal chipping but my nails were still looking a little ragged. Why, you ask? BECAUSE MY NAILS TURNED BROWN. I shit you not (pun intended). My top coat of choice has never done this before, so I’m blaming the polish. Totally and completely. While this shade is lovely don’t use it if you can’t re-paint your nails in 3-4 days. After that you’ll see the horror I experienced. I won’t even post a picture of my nails, but rather check out the residue I removed with nail polish remover.

<shudders>

This is where I must offer my retraction from my earlier Instagram claims of true love. Such a bummer, Posh. I expected more.

Ciate Olivia Palermo collaboration

Ciate Olivia Palermo collab 2

After I [originally thought I] had such good luck with the Victoria Beckham collaboration, I decided to try out one of Olivia Palermo’s new polishes with Ciate. I love the Ciate packaging and especially love the long application handle. Unfortunately that’s where the love ends for this polish. Although the picture above looks like a close dupe, this image took THREE coats and is much more sheer in person (increasing the photo exposure makes it look more opaque). I would say this $24 polish is more of a jelly rather than my preferred cream formula. It also chipped almost immediately after application…

I was definitely influenced by a few British beauty bloggers who gave this polish collaboration their highest remarks. Unfortunately, their claims turned out to not be so high in my opinion. Aren’t you glad you have me here to set the record straight?

Sorry this is such a bummer duo review. They’re both unfortunate losses for me because I really adore both of these brands. But considering the high price tags of each of these polishes, they’re both a thumbs down in my book.

How do you feel about celebrity product collaborations? Over-hyped or worth it?

  1. Oh that’s disappointing 😦 I was eyeing off the Nails Inc x Victoria Beckham polish. But at a premium price, dirty (? I don’t even know what to call it!) nails will not do! I generally love Ciate nail polishes also – what’s going on???!

    Celebrity endorsements are so over rated and sometimes it will stop me buying a product. Products shouldn’t need that kind of ‘pulling power’ if the the product is good!

    • AGREED on all fronts! DON’T DO IT – listen to me! I just checked and the VB nail polish set is STILL available at Sephora. Probably because of the price but maybe others had bad experiences with it as well.

      I like your view on the celebrity endorsements. I’m definitely a bit more skeptical to hype. I’ll give in sometimes but if it’s a bad buy, I’m pretty quick to return. 🙂
