(Nail) Polish Porn: Essie Urban Jungle

Essie Urban Jungle

With zee new job/promotion, I’ve become much more conservative in my nail polish choices. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always been a neutral/pink/red polish kinda girl, but I’ve toned down the experimenting at the office. No more purple, turquoise, blue, green or neon coral for this girl!

[Although I took a risk and boldly wore a light blue last Friday – because Friday – and I ended up having a meeting with my boss and my boss’ boss… Whoops. The bigger issue is having a meeting on Friday. Who does that?!]

Anyways, I’m a big fan of Essie’s Urban Jungle shade. I believe this came out last summer and I’ve been wearing it on and off ever since. It makes a beautiful “winter white” if you ask me. This shade would be a gorgeous white/off-white on all skin tones and perfect for any work or play situation.

I’m not as big of a fan of the formula, but I say that about most Essie polishes. (They’re just not my favorite and I’ve largely moved away from buying Essie.) The picture above is two coats and a top coat (normal) although I find the formula to be a little heavy/sticky (not normal). And that’s not just because I’ve had the polish for a year; the polish has always performed that way for me.

Overall, Urban Jungle gets a thumbs up from this girl. I’m doubtful that you could find this polish in stores now (my bad) but if you can, pick it up. As an alternative, I’m finding many brands – Nails Inc. in particular – are coming out with wonderful light neutrals lately. I even bought two of the most hyped about celebrity polish collaborations to do a swatch comparison for y’all. Spoiler alert: Victoria Beckham’s ‘Bamboo White’ is all that it claims to be. I’m not the least bit ashamed over spending $24 on a bottle of nail polish…okay, maybe just a little bit…err a lot. Whatever. I like to shop away my feelings, okay?

What’s your favorite office-appropriate neutral polish? Let me know in the comments!

I’m gonna need some variety (of nail polish anddddd everything) in my life REAL soon 🙂

  1. So, I’m a gel manicure kinda gal. I use my hands a lot, cooking, cleaning (I’m OCD) and that’s the only way a mani stays. A good one can last 3 weeks on me without a chip. I also have a really hard time waiting for my nails to dry, so a regular manicure – DIY or in a salon – makes me nuts!

But gels mess up my nails. Every so often, I take off the gel polish and let my nails breathe. Get a little thickness back. Then, I usually just wear clear.

I’d love to try this shade. With my fair skin, it’s hard to find a light shade that looks good. But you’re fair as well. I’m sure I can find something in the gel world that matches this color. Very purty.

    • I feel ya. Gel is the best and stays forever. I’ve just become obsessed with doing my own finger nails (never the toes obviously – let’s leave that to the professionals and those “spa” chairs) so I tend to do them myself. But if I could have gel and not have to wait at the salon I would do it all the time. Gel is amazing. Thank you modern times.

I’m OCD about cleaning too! The fumes relax me, I think…

I’m the fairest of the fair although my hands do look a lil dark (ha-burned) in this picture… I’ll have another post soon about some awesome light, white-ish colors. It will be good I promise 🙂
