My Favorite Drugstore Makeup

Sometimes, I can be a makeup snob. I admit it. I like nice things – who doesn’t? For the most part I discuss more mid-to-high end makeup on this blog, but now is the time to introduce my love for the drugstore.

Drugstore makeup has definitely evolved over the past few years with great, new brands emerging and oldies (but goodies) revamping their image. With these changes has also come a not so exciting trend of drugstore makeup steadily increasing in price. Some drugstore makeup is nearly the same price as mid-range products at Sephora – CRAZY. If you’re paying nearly the same price, why not get the nicer product? Although this is my general frame of mind when it comes to purchasing drugstore makeup, there are quite a few standouts and things I absolutely LOVE (even more than high-end products).

Check out my favorite drugstore makeup:

My Favorite Drugstore Makeup 2

L’Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base – A little bit thicker than Clarin’s Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch, but gets the same result at a fraction of the price!

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Smoothing Stick – This reminds me of Urban Decay’s 24/7 Concealer Pencil but more creamy. The shade range is very limited, but I trust Neutrogena as a great skin care and makeup brand.

Collection Illuminating Touch ConcealerMy parents picked up this beauty for me last year while they were in London. I’d heard so much about Collection concealers and this wand version is bomb. It is almost empty and I will be so sad to lose this quick and easy concealer.

L’Oreal Revitalift Miracle Blur Instant Skin Smoother – This is one of my “pricier” drugstore options (isn’t it annoying how drugstores are exponentially raising their prices?). My mom and I both love this pore/line filler in its travel-friendly tube. L’Oreal sells this in a large tube but it is almost too expensive so I recommend this “test” size bottle instead.

L’Oreal Infallible Le Rouge – HANDS DOWN one of the best lipsticks at the drugstore. I don’t know why this ridiculously long-lasting formula doesn’t get more hype. One of my biggest worries is having lipstick teeth but this non-transfer formula has me rocking bold, red lips without worry.

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Kohl Eyeliner – These are fantastic eyeliners with a wide color range at a great price. The taupe one is one of my daily staples.

My Favorite Drugstore Makeup 3

Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Mascara – I’ve talked on and on about my favorite high end mascara, but I’m not sure that I’ve ever mentioned this drugstore favorite. The Falsies is a cult favorite for a reason – LOVE. In fact I’m giving a tube away in one of my giveaways HERE.

NYX Retractable Lip Liner & Slim Lip Pencil – NYX has a fabulous range of lip liners in different variations (sharpening and retractable). I’m not a huge lip liner person, but this affordable brand has every color I could ever want.

Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer – Again, I’m not a big lip product person but these lip lacquers BLOW MY MIND. They’re ridiculously opaque, smell great, and SO affordable.

Milani Liquif’eye Eyeliner – Best drugstore eyeliner EVAH. Ridiculously creamy and applies like a dream. Most comparable to Urban Decay’s 24/7 or my beloved Tarte SmolderEyes eyeliners but even creamier!

Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadows – I just mentioned these in my latest empties post and they are truly fabulous. One of the best products to hit the drugstore in the past few years. Maybelline is continually coming out with new shades and formulas that keep these amazing cream eyeshadows on trend.
NYX HD ConcealerAs you already know, this is THE best drugstore concealer. I’ll shut up about it so you should just go and buy a tube RIGHT NOW.

My Favorite Drugstore Makeup 4

There are a few categories – foundation and (powder) eyeshadow – not included in this post. There are some drugstore foundation and eyeshadow formulas that I enjoy, but none that I absolutely adore. Therefore, I didn’t include them in this all time faves list. With the rising prices of drugstore makeup, I find that I enjoy the “higher-end” eyeshadows and foundations more and don’t mind paying the difference in price for the difference in quality.
I love makeup in all shapes, sizes and prices :).

  1. I’ve been using those 24hour eye tattoo eyeshadows and I love them. I feel like I have a hard time finding really warm colors to offset my eyes… but I have a couple of those that I love.

Also! You were so right about that Benefit powder, pssssh. I think it’ll be gone in like a week! Oh well, I’ll try something new then 😉

    • Love them! When you’re ready for a creamier version at a slightly higher price point, check out the MAC Paint Pots. I bought the MAC and Maybelline at the same time and the MAC are still going strong after these bad boys dried out. They’re still AMAZING though! Love, love.

Bummer about the powder! That sucks! I honestly couldn’t believe it when my friend Stephanie showed me! Better luck next time, eh? <<< I'm Canadian now.

  2. I must follow your lead and put together a similar post! There are such gems hidden in the drugstore, but I always feel like reviewing high end (maybe because they look prettier… *ashamed*) The Tattoo cream shadows by maybelline are amazing, I use the bronze one almost daily. 🙂

    • Hey, no need to feel ashamed about liking high end… It’s my personal preference. I just figured a drugstore post would be a nice change!

Those color tattoos are Maybelline’s star product! So impressive!
