Light & Simple Summer Makeup

I am all about a full face of makeup, but when you live in Atlanta and it’s 9000 degrees… not so much. This summer I’ve been sporting a light and simple makeup look just using just a few star products.

Summer Face 1

The real star of this natural look is the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. I was baffled by other makeup lover’s adoration of this product until I really figured out how to use it – all over my face. Yes, it works just fine on spots and dark circles, but the beauty of this product comes from its ability to replace my foundation. I have redness all over my face along with acne (it’s lovely), but after striping my face with this beauty of a concealer, I don’t need a speck of liquid foundation. It’s amazing. Try using it in this way and you won’t go back.

Although this concealer would work fine on its own, the humidity in Atlanta makes me take extra precautions and set this miracle concealer with my beloved Bare Minerals. I’ve loved Bare Minerals since 8th grade when I convinced my mom to order me some off of an infomercial:). This loose powder is perfect for the summer because it simply won’t budge and offers pretty great coverage (if you spend the time buffing everything in properly). Then, I add a slight contour using the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed – a blush/contour/light bronzer all in one.

I keep the eyes pretty minimal as it’s the face I’m most concerned with “evening” out. I’ll prime my eyelids with the Mac Painterly Paint Pot, top it off with one of the light shades in the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette, finish by curling my eyelashes with the Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler and coating my lashes with Maybelline’s The Falsies Mascara.

That’s it. Truly. Some days I don’t even do anything to my eyes besides curl & coat my lashes. It’s a simple yet put-together look great for the heat of summer.

  1. What a great post. If I’m honest I’ve pretty much just been curling and coating my lashes lately too. As for that NARS concealer, it’s awesome. Love it! Have a lovely weekend Gillian. We’re finally heading down to Sydney!

    • I bet with all the moving and some crazy girl asking you to write a guest post in the middle of it all, you’ve only had time to curl your lashes:) Ha!

Oooohhh, that Nars concealer. Thinking about writing a whole post on it. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Happy moving weekend to you!!! Best of luck and warm wishes to you and Dylan in the new city and new home!

  2. I swear by mixing normal foundation with my daytime moisturizer when I need to do something light and fast. Mascara + bright lips and I leave the house. It’s what I did this morning when I woke up 2 HOURS later than I planned.

    • Ooohhh! Love that too! Although that requires mixing and effort and stuff. Rough for me. RUFF. I feel like mascara and bold lips is such an NYC thing to do. Loves it.

2 hours…eek! No mas staying up late knitting and watching SVU! πŸ™‚

  3. LOVE Falsies mascara! Have you heard about Flash Tattoos? ( I just ordered some to try out with friends the next couple weekends. I’m definitely going to write a post, but thought you would be interested to try them, too. πŸ™‚

    • Best drugstore mascara EVAH!

I have heard about those! I have friends that wear them to concerts or the beach and then it leaves (kinda cool) tan lines! Same thing, right? I would definitely do some along my hand, upper arm or upper back! So cool – can’t wait to hear what you think of them!!
