(Nail) Polish Porn: China Glaze “Flip Flop Fantasy”

As I mentioned when I recently hauled this polish, YouTubers and bloggers pushed me to this purchase. It’s such a fun, neon coral shade great for summer, but…

China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy

I hate it.

This is my first China Glaze polish and I had such high hopes. But the formula of this bad boy was like applying streaks of glue. Like Elmer’s glue from elementary school. It was a hot mess. The only way my nails look (kinda) nice in this picture is thanks to my Seche Vite top coat which magically smooths any polish. Besides the glue-like finish, I feel like the polish somewhat “sat” on my nails. You can see the weird lift it held especially on my pinky finger. I love polishes that plump giving that gel look but this was not that pretty. It was just…odd.

That’s not even the worst part.

Y’all… the smell. I almost didn’t make it through the manicure the smell was so strong. Granted, I’m very sensitive to smell, but this odor was WHOA. I’ve never smelled a polish quite like this one and that slightly concerns me. No bueno.

On a positive note, the color is gorgeous. A true neon that makes me look the tiniest bit tanner. The picture above was taken inside with natural light so it may be a bit “brighter” than in real life, but I find the pictured color pretty true. I painted my nails over the weekend, but once I wore it to work early this week, in my opinion, it was a bit too bright for a conservative work place. A color perfect for the beach – not work – if you can handle the smell and streaks.

In conclusion, not a win for me as much as I wanted it to be. Maybe I got a bad bottle?

Do you like this shade or have you experienced the same issues as me? Should I give China Glaze another try or is this a true sampling of the brand?

  1. I just purchased my first China Glaze out of the summer colors. They were on sale, and I thought, hmmm….I could have a real brand of polish. So I went with Pool Party, Turned Up Turquoise, and In the Lime Light. I wanted to love it. I am wearing Pool Party right now. I like the actual shade, but I agree with you about the hassle putting it on.

    • Phew! Glad to know I’m not the only one! This is the only one I’ve tried and it will probably be the last… I don’t know if I would even try the top coat(although I’ll keep it in mind)…

  2. The color is a bit too bright for me but then again it’s neon and not meant for sophisticated office jobs. This is something i would like to use when I go out. Also I think it’s a bit shiny because of the light.
Ever thought about trying like light blue? or yellow?

    • Yeah, it was a little cray…

Light blue, yes, although not my usual pick. And I tend to stay away from yellows (nail polish, clothes, anything) because yellow just does not work with my skin. Too pale for that junk! One of my best friends has the darkest caucasian complexion and yellow is beautiful on her – JEALOUS.
