So Trashy: Empties Spring 2014

So Trashy Empties Spring 2014

Empties every day, empties every way…

A new season means another empties post. I used up quite a bit of makeup and high-end skin care this Spring! Take a look:

So Trashy Empties Spring 2014 2

Skin Care

Kirkland Daily Facial Towelettes – Fave. Love. I’ve raved about these to death. Repurchase? Yes

Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil – Fantastic for dry patches on my skin and even better to mix with my regular moisturizer for glowy skin. You can use argan oil for hair, nails, or skin (I just chose to use it only on my skin). Repurchase? I’ll never pay for a big, expensive bottle, but I will certainly use Sephora points to get the minis.

Stridex Maximum Strength Pads – I’ve had some serious skin issues since January/February. I’ve also tried nearly everything to fix it – Proactiv, all natural products, oil cleansing, new makeup, etc. Nothing worked until I took Josh Collier’s advice, bought these bad boys, and swiped a solution-soaked pad over my face every night. I don’t know quite how this little BHA miracle works, but it does. Amaze. Repurchase? Yes

Gucci Eau de Parfum II – My signature perfume. Spicy and delicious. Love it and will continue to purchase it for the rest of my life. Repurchase? Yes

Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge – I pretty much have the same feelings now about this sponge as when I bought it – it’s just blah. WAY too expensive for what it is. When you get it wet, the sponge absorbs the water and becomes ridiculously soft.  This would be a good option for someone who wants something “natural” to use to clean their face, but it’s definitely not an exfoliator. Repurchase? No

Philosophy Purity Made Simple Facial Cleanser – Basic. Gentle. Awesome. Repurchase? Yes

Shiseido The Makeup Facial Cotton – These expensive cotton pads get a lot of hype on YouTube and blogs. I gave in nearly a year ago with this bag and LOVE them. I use these with eye makeup remover, toner, or Bioderma. It makes taking off my makeup a luxurious skin care experience. As for the price, I don’t think it’s a big deal to pay $9 for a bag of cotton. You’re going to pay a few dollars for any bag of cotton, so why not pay a tiny bit more for such a softer pad? Repurchase? Yes

Lancome Advances Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate – Lancome is a bad bitch when it comes to skin care. I ADORE Lancome, mostly because of this product. This was my first venture into nice skin care a few years ago and I still adore this serum. It honestly changes the texture of my skin from rough sand paper to baby skin. The price tag kills me but it’s worth every penny, and I’ve already bought a new bottle. Repurchase? Hells Yes

Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel Original Formula – I received this as a nice sample in my latest Sephora order and it’s pretty cool stuff. Like many of the products in this empties post, the price is outrageous for this two-step peel system. Sheesh. Nice, but not necessary to my skin care routine. Repurchase? Only in sample form…

Vaseline – Want my secret to soft feet? Mix a combination of vaseline with your favorite body lotion, slather a thick coat on your feet, sleep with some thick socks, and wake up to your softest feet ever. Soooo good. I also use Vaseline for lip balm and my grandmother uses it all over her face (her skin is amazing). Repurchase? Yes

Clarisonic Delicate Brush Head – Apparently “delicate” is not so delicate when it comes to Clarisonic brush heads.  This was sooo harsh. Repurchase? Never

Dior Hydraction Visible Defense Hydra Protective Eye Cream – This thick eye cream just doesn’t knock my socks off and for the price it really should. Repurchase? No

Clinique Rinse-off Foaming Cleanser – A nice, basic cleanser, but I prefer Philosophy’s Purity. Repurchase? No

So Trashy Empties Spring 2014 4

Hair & Nails

Pantene Expert Collection Age Defy Shampoo & Conditioner – I loved these travel size bottles and the smell! I know Pantene is supposedly bad/too much for your hair – blah, blah, blah – but this made my hair smell amazing and feel so smooth. Repurchase? Yes

OPI Nail Envy – Strengthens my nails like none other. I LOVE this as my base coat and even a top coat. Repurchase? Yes

OPI Expert Touch Nail Polish Remover – It does the job but is nothing special. The Zoya remover is much better. Repurchase? No

So Trashy Empties Spring 2014 5

CK One Mascara – Although this mascara wand is built much like my beloved Benefit They’re Real, it is nowhere near the quality. Plus, the one cool factor (the wand expanding and retracting feature) didn’t stay put… On the plus side it was completely free as an Ulta reward for my birthday. Repurchase? No

Benefit The POREfessional – I’m a little bit torn on this product. It certainly does its job of filling in pores, but it also makes those spots you fill in quite greasy/slippery… I think I would rather have an all-in-one product that acted as a primer and pore filler. Repurchase? Probably not

Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadows in Tough as Taupe, Bad to the Bronze, and Pomegranate Punk – I adore these cream eyeshadows, but unfortunately I didn’t use every single drop and they dried out. I thought about researching how to revive them (microwave?), but decided against it when I realized I’ve had these products since their release in January 2012. Eww. This is one of my favorite drugstore products and acts as a great dupe for MAC Paint Pots. Repurchase? Yes

Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer – This stuff is amazing. I’m not sure how well it acts as a primer, but it is a great eye brightener. Repurchase? Yes

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion – Staple. I love it, but may give a new product a try the next time I need an eyeshadow primer. Repurchase? Yes

Mally Beauty Volumizing Mascara – A pretty basic mascara but sadly doesn’t compare to my holy grail mascaraRepurchase? No

Bare Minerals Prime Time Foundation Primer – This silicone-y primer has such a strong smell that it’s a turn-off for me. But if you like Smashbox primers, this is very similar in formula but just a bit thinner. Repurchase? No

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara Sample – I really wish I would stop getting these mascara samples because it’s just blah. Repurchase? No

Bare Minerals Original Foundation – Bare Minerals was my very first makeup purchase way back in 8th grade and it is still a great product to this day. I will forever love Bare Minerals. If you’ve never given this a try, you really should. Repurchase? Always

Good stuff, huh? What products have you used up lately?

  1. I have a love/hate relationship with empties. I love reading other peoples posts but I hate saving them for posts of my own. So I just don’t bother these days. Your post on the other hand was brilliant! I really, really want to try the Lancome Advanced Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate but I recently repurchased an Estee Lauder serum. As for dried up shadow pots I recently read (funnly enough) that people use saline eye drops on dried up shadows! Sounds kinda weird to me, but what do I know. xx

    • I feel the exact same about empties posts. They take me FOREVER to write. UGH. But I get a lot of good feedback about them…

As soon as you finish the Estee Lauder serum, DEFINITELY get the Lancome. I will never be without it.

Interesting about the saline eye drops… Maybe I’ll try that in the future if some of my newer paint pots dry up. Saline solution is kinda miraculous… I’ve heard you can use the “redness reducing” kind on your acne/red spots to reduce the redness in your skin.

Thanks for reading and commenting, Libby 🙂
