(Nail) Polish Porn: OPI Black Onyx & Butter London Matte Finish Topcoat

Remember my black, matte nails obsession? Well, I finally gave into the urge and did my own nails in glossy black then matte black. I know it’s nearing spring with sunny weather, unicorns, and rainbows so I figured I should wear my dark, doom, and gloom nails while I can before people start asking if something is wrong. Can you say Wednesday Addams?

OPI Black Onyx Nails

First, I used OPI’s Black Onyx which is the most beautiful, glossy black I’ve ever seen. Richly opaque in two coats and a dream to paint on!

I quite liked these black nails although I was worried about looking too “goth.” At work and school, I asked all my girl friends what their thoughts were and everyone thought it was on trend and liked it. Then I asked a guy friend his thoughts and he promptly said, “it looks kinda goth.” Grrrrrreat.

A couple of days later I added Butter London’s Matte Finish Shine Free Topcoat to create the matte nail look which I love. Unlike the OPI Matte Topcoat, the Butter London one is truly matte without a hint of shine. It also dries in less than a minute. Amazeballs. I’ll probably be adding this matte topcoat to every polish I own.

I love both the shiny and matte looks, but surprisingly I think I like the shiny nails better for this particular look.

Is anyone else into black nails?

  1. Stop just stop. I shit you not I am rocking the goth nail right now. And okay it’s not “goth” it’s actually sleek and edgy, or so I like to think. I HAVE TO HAVE that top coat. I’m searching for it as I type. Not really but you know what I mean.
