So Trashy: Empties Fall/Winter 2013

This time around, my quarterly empties are a bit later than they should be and therefore are a bit larger as well. Although I went through a few more beauty, skin care, and hair care products, there are only a hand full that I would repurchase (I’m pretty picky). Per my last empties post, it was requested to include my thoughts and feedback on all products regardless of my desire to purchase again. I aim to please so here it goes:

Fall / Winter 2013 Empties

Order of reviews is from left to right, top to bottom

Ellen Tracy RAD Radiant Revitalizing Eye Mask – Pretty cool gel pads for the under-eyes, but I’m not completely in love.

Repurchase? No

Bio Miracle Collagen Miracle Mask – I prefer the thicker and “juicer” Masqueology masks but these get the job done.

Repurchase? No

LA Fresh Makeup Remover Wipes – These dry and heavily perfumed wipes that I received in an Ipsy bag made my entire face red and swollen after using them just once.

Repurchase? Hell No

Neutrogena Makeup Remover Wipes – These travel size packs are great for my overnight kit and are my second favorite makeup remover wipes.

Repurchase? No, they’re my second favorite.

Kirkland Daily Facial Towelettes – Moisturizing, textured and simply awesome = my absolute fave.

Repurchase? Abso-freaking-lutely

I.D. On the Spot Liquid-Filled Cotton Swabs – Pretty cool concept of makeup remover and Q-Tips prepared and ready to go, but definitely not necessary.

Repurchase? No

Neutrogena Ageless Essentials Moisturizer – Thick, gel/cream moisturizer that is scentless! Loves it. Will never stop using it unless they discontinue it.

Repurchase? Abso-freaking-lutely

Maybelline Eyestudio Gel Eyeliner – I don’t use gel eyeliner too often, but this one is a great, tried and true standby.

Repurchase? Yes

Cetaphil Body Wash & Moisturizer – I get these samples frequently from my dermatologist, but there’s nothing “wow” about them. I guess that’s the point…

Repurchase? No

First Aid Beauty Smooth Shave Cream – I am fairly certain I received this in a subscription beauty box of some sort and I never fell in love with it. Simple and basic, but I prefer the fruity scents and more of a shave gel (rather than cream).

Repurchase? No

Seche Vite Topcoat – Smells like death paint, but works like a dream.

Repurchase? Yes

Bliss Soapy Suds Body Wash – I kinda sorta liked the spicy smell of this body wash, but the scent did not linger after the shower, which I like it to. Plus it didn’t feel that it was really getting me clean. Just a small thing really 🙂

Repurchase? No

Lavanila Healthy Deodorant – Either this stuff is horrific for everyone, or it really does not work with my body chemistry. Yuck. I threw this bad boy in here after three uses and will not go the natural deodorant route again!

Repurchase? Hell No

Clarisonic Sensitive Brush Head – I’ve only tried this brush head and the delicate one, and I far prefer this one. I will definitely go back to this kind once I finish up my back stock.

Repurchase? Yes

Origins Modern Friction Exfoliator – Something about this large granule exfoliator with the “earthy crunchy” smell just makes me sick. I forced myself to use it even though I don’t think it did much of anything.

Repurchase? Hell No

Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch – This pore and line filler is amazing. It’s like putting clouds of silk on your skin. It’s similar to the L’Oreal pore filler in the pot but with a much lighter and smoother consistency.

Repurchase? Yes (if it wasn’t so expensive!)

Up & Up Strengthening Nail Polish Remover – Jus blah. Got the job done but in no hurry.

Repurchase? No

Avene Retrinal +.05 Cream – Ohmygosh I’m in love with this moisturizer. My dermatologist gave me this small tube in a huge bag of samples and it’s the best moisturizer ever. Unfortunately, I went to order it online and it is ridiculously expensive and made for much older skin. I doubt I’ll purchase this any time soon, but I will definitely remember this for the future!

Repurchase? Hells yes

Items I would repurchase from Fall / winter 2013 empties

Items I would repurchase

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer – Eeeh. I don’t remember anything special about this primer.

Repurchase? No

Josie Maran Argan Oil – This is some great stuff for skin, hair and nails and I’ve used it in all those ways. I particularly like it for my super dry skin days right before makeup application.

Repurchase? Yes, but I think I may buy the Light Argan Oil next time

Sally Hansen Cuticle Oil – Standard cuticle oil, but I do like this better than the one I’m currently using from Perfect Formula.

Repurchase? Yes

Nivea Crème – This is a really nice, thick hand cream, but the smell was a little off for me.

Repurchase? No

Origins Ginzing Eye Cream – I quite like the brightening properties of this eye cream, but after a while my sample dried up and applied chunks to my under-eyes. That is a no-go if a sample dries up that quickly.

Repurchase? No

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion – My favorite eye primer.

Repurchase? Yes

Dermstore Lip Quench – This. Is. The. Best. Lip. Balm. Ever. Do the periods emphasize my point? I just ordered 3 more at a ridiculous (but worth every penny) $12 a pop.

Repurchase? YES

Estee Lauder Lash Primer Plus – I thought this would be healthy and helpful for my lashes, but it made them crunchy. Eww.

Repurchase? No

L’Oreal Color Vibrancy Nourishing Conditioner – For the longest time, I thought I really liked this. But once I figured out this was the product weighing down my hair I wasn’t such a fan. I still have more of this brand shampoo and maybe another conditioner that I will use, but I will not repurchase.

Repurchase? No

Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes in Champagne – I heard that these eyeliners were some of the best on the market, but after using this one for a while I vastly prefer my Tarte or Urban Decay eyeliners. Plus this one completely dried up, thus it’s in the pile.

Repurchase? No

Philosophy Candy Cane Shower Gel – This is such a nice shower gel with a very strong peppermint scent and tingle (which I loved), but you have to be very careful where you use this (if you get my drift). Unless you like the tingly sensation…?

Repurchase? Probably not. I don’t think peppermint shower gel is my jam.

Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Oil-Free Moisturizer – Staple. Love.

Repurchase? Yes

Batiste Wild Scent Dry Shampoo – I am a dry shampoo connoisseur and I love Batiste. This scent is a little different from the original, and the leopard print is amazeballs.

Repurchase? Yes

Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask – Another beauty subscription box item that I quite liked. Would I rush out and spend “my own” money on it? Ehhh. Moroccanoil products are priced a little high for my taste.

Repurchase? Maybe/Yes

Proactiv Revitalizing Toner – I don’t quite know how I feel about toners. I loved this with the Proactiv system but on it’s own it was blah.

Repurchase? No, unless I buy the whole system again

Sample Mascaras:

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara – Quite a bold claim, Too Faced, very bold. This coats my lashes beautifully with the funky, curved wand and creates a “heavy” lash look. The only thing I didn’t like was how the product became very gloopy and clumpy after just a few uses which made application a bit difficult. Otherwise, a very nice mascara.

Repurchase? Maybe/Yes

Laura Mercier Mascara – I have a serious issue with certain scents and this smells sick nasty.

Repurchase? No

Clinique High Impact Mascara – Smells sick nasty

Repurchase? No

MAC Zoom Fast Lash Mascara – Smells sick nasty

Repurchase? No

Aveeno Positively Nourishing Comforting Whipped Soufflé – Gah, I love this tub of cocoa and shea butter whipped soufflé. Smells amazing and keeps my skin so soft.

Repurchase? Yes

Phew! That’s all for now! I think I’ll break these up into categories next time… Always learning.

  1. Okay twin. Now, in order for us to continue being soul mates you must change your mind about the Philosophy Candy Cane shower gel. That sh*t makes me horny. Someone had to say it. I would lather that stuff on myself all hours of the day if I could. I might let it go though because Kirkland towelettes, Seche Vite (nailed it with the death smell – that I sometimes like to sniff from time to time), and the Better than Sex mascara are highly agreed upon. PS – Im a loser and put baby powder in my hair instead of dry shampoo but now I want to try this Batiste stuff. Where can I purchase? xo

    • HAHAHAHA! It’s definitely a sensation that’s for sure:) Maybe the name should just change from shower gel to hoo-ha gel?! We should suggest it to Summer’s Eve for a new scent sensation…

You can get Batiste at Ulta or WalMart or Target (my mothership). Make sure to get the leopard or paisley print can; those smell better than the original.

I’m totes down with baby powder, but I usually use it when my hair really needs it aka day 3 or 4. I use dry shampoo for that extra bit of volume or sometimes instead of hairspray when I’m teasing my hair.

      Still twins?

  2. I know you’re not a fan of the Ellen Tracy RAD radiant revitalizing eye mask, but I’m in love with them!. I was given a packet from a friend, but we can’t find them anywhere! I’d love to know where you bought them??

    • They’re not bad, just kinda -ish in my book, ya know? Everyone’s skin and preferences are different so I’m glad you love them!

I scoured all over the metro Atlanta area for sheet masks and found them at TJ Maxx & Marshalls! I tried a Ross once, but that place is a hot mess (at least the one I went to).

      Happy hunting!
