(Nail) Polish Porn: Nails Inc. Porchester Square (Gel Effect Polish)

I’ve seen this Nails Inc. polish floating around various blogs and social media (ahem, essiebutton) and just had to pick it up at Sephora to see what all the hype was about.

I would call Porchester Square a light taupe with a slight purple tint. Definitely cooler and lighter in shade than Essie’s Chinchilly but fairly close. This “Gel Effect Polish” is a different (aka better) formula than the normal Nails Inc. round bottle formula. It claims to have a plumping effect giving the polish that “gel look” which I would attest to be true.

This shade required two coats, but a glorious two coats they are. I topped it off with my beloved Seche Vite and the polish lasted a solid week without chipping on my right hand, but chipped after a few days on my left (weird, but true). My stepmom loved the polish too and immediately bought a few bottles for herself. This shade lasted two weeks on her nails until she took it off to change colors, so who knows how long it could have remained!

I must say, I’m not happy with the price ($14) and for some reason the bottle feels small to me. The regular Nails Inc. polishes are $9, so $14 for the Gel Effect Polish seems like quite a jump. Is that just me?

I love this color and polish formula and will definitely look into the other shades. At my Sephora, there were only a total of four shades in this special range and I will probably own them all very soon. I’m ranking this polish at the top of my favorites list along with the Seche and Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure polishes.

Anyone else in lurve with Porchester Square?

  1. I’ve never really got the hype over this colour, but good review on the formula. I did notice they were more expensive £14 versus £11 for a smaller bottle, but I guess if it lasts longer it’s worth it? Plus I don’t think I will ever finish a whole bottle. Thanks so much for doing this review, I am going to shop around and try get my mitts on purple. Xx

    • I feel ya. It is kind of a “dead hands” look, but for some reason I’m always drawn to these taupe-purples in the winter months. It’s a way of doing a darker polish without going goth yet still polished. The formula is seriously amazing. Once I cushion my bank account a bit more, I’m buying the other 3 colors in the gel effects range. Can’t wait to hear how the purple does for you!

  2. Been meaning to try these since (at least) March… Back then I had my eye on Kensington Passage and Soho Place.

Will definitely have to try them, after this review (despite their, honestly, ridiculous price @18.20€ a pop!)

    • WHOA! PRICEY!!! Honestly though…. this is my second favorite polish formula. SO GOOD.

I don’t know if they’re quite worth that… can you get those mini sets? Those are always such a great deal.

      • Not many of those available around here, really. To give you an idea of what I am talking about, I can’t even get the Essie ones 😦

Will try online, though… Thanks for the suggestion!

      • Nails Inc. is far superior to Essie! Go for those – especially the Gel Formula.

I would offer to send you more from over here, but after the heart attack (and threats from the postman) I nearly had sending you stuff the first time, that might not be the best idea…

        Good luck!

      • Ah, don’t even mention it! I’m sure I’ll figure something out, online. And, if not, there’s bound to be a convenient trip abroad in my future 🙂
