Pale Girl Problems: Contouring

image_6

Hi. My name is Gillian and I am a pale girl.

One of my biggest issues as a pale girl is trying to realistically contour. I love to contour but the majority of bronzers and contour powders on the market today are WAY too dark for me. Even when applied with the lightest hand, regular bronzer can make me look like this:

Yeah, no one wants to look like that…

When I’m at my lightest, my two favorite products are MAC’s “Taupe Shape” Powder Blush and Illamasqua’s “Hollow” Cream Pigment. They provide just the right amount of light brown/grey to achieve the most natural cheek contour.

Paired with my favorite tools for the job – Real Techniques’ Expert Face Brush and Contour Brush – these create the perfect pair for contouring. I mostly use the Expert Face Brush with the Illamasqua cream pigment because it is much stiffer and therefore easier to pick up, place and blend the product. I switch between brushes for the MAC powder depending on how dark I want my contour.

Illamasqua can be purchased at Sephora, Real Techniques from Ulta, and the MAC product was limited edition, but I purchased it from my local Cosmetics Company Outlet (CCO). Special thanks to Marnie and Emilie for introducing me to my favorite contouring products!

Don’t get me wrong, I love looking like Snow White, and I have no desire to look like that crazy tan mom. These are just a few ideas that may help my fellow glow-in-the-dark girls add a little more dimension.

Enjoy!
