*Snow Day Manicure* (Nail) Polish Porn: Sally Hansen Style Steel & Essie Hors d’Oeuvres

Unless you live under a rock, I’m sure you heard all about Atlanta’s (and the Southeast’s) weather woes over the past three days. In general, we are always unprepared for snow storms because they occur once every two to five years or so, but this Tuesday was particularly bad. Heavy and sudden snow and ice accumulation coupled with the closing of schools and businesses at the same time did not produce pretty results. The highways were completely jammed due to the timing of releases plus accidents from 5+ million Metro Atlantan drivers with little-to-no winter weather experience resulted in something like this:

Sheets of ice and snow over I-75/I-85 in Atlantaย

It’s pretty horrific. Thankfully, I was released from work at 1pm on Tuesday and made it home in 3.5 hours safe and sound. Many of my friends had far longer drives (6-8 hours), spent the night at their offices, crashed in hotel lobbys and grocery stores, or were stranded in their cars on the interstate like these poor people above.

Phew! All of that to say, while trapped safe and warm at home on Tuesday, I created a snow day manicure that is BALLIN and makes up for the shiz going on outside. Take a look:

Ever since this blog post from Stephanie at Short ‘n Chic, I could not stop thinking about this nail polish combo! I already have an established love for Sally Hansen’s Style Steel, so why not add some Essie sparkle to the fun?!

It took me a couple of weeks to finally find Essie Hors d’Oeuvres from the 2013 winter collection, but I finally found it at Target. Before Stephanie’s post, I probably would not have purchased it because I’m not a huge glitter person, but now that I own the gorgeousness I can’t wait to throw it on some other solid colors – black, maybe?

It is an interesting, multi-colored polish with silver glitter and tiny flecks of yellow/gold glitter as well. I just love it.ย Paired on top of Sally Hansen’s rose gold Style Steel, the results are truly gorgeous as Stephanie led me to believe. I’m non-stop staring at my nails; it’s a problem. I cannot speak to the wear time for the polishes, but I was okay with Style Steel and I find when glitter is added to any of my polishes, it tends to help my manicure last a bit longer.

This would be an ideal New Year’s Eve manicure, but I’m down for wearing it any time. You like?

  1. Lovely colours, I am dying to paint mine but our weather is so humid (94% – it’s a few percent’s away from becoming the little mermaid) and its raining cat’s n dog’s that I know the polish would never dry! so my nails are plain and sad until the weather brightens a bit. I hope Atlanta’s weather warms up soon for you. Steph x
